Which standards are relevant
Most production sites build an integrated management system from three standards: ISO 9001 for quality, ISO 14001 for environmental management, and ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety. Because the three share a common structure, they are frequently certified together under a single, combined audit programme — which is both more coherent operationally and more cost-effective than running three separate engagements.
What makes a manufacturing audit different
Manufacturing audits are grounded in the physical operation. Auditors spend time on the production floor, looking at how process controls work in practice, how non-conforming product is contained, how environmental aspects such as waste, emissions and resource use are managed, and how safety controls hold up around machinery and material handling. Because so much depends on direct observation, the Stage 2 audit normally includes a site visit — and with lead auditors based across the UK, EU and Middle East, that visit usually happens without international travel charges.
